Programs at a Glance

For more than 34 years, Crisis Nursery, Inc., the Valley's longest-serving children's shelter, has provided a safe haven for more than 18,000 children in Greater Phoenix through child-centered and family-focused programs and services. Our mission is to help break the cycle of child abuse and neglect by providing access to tools that support safer, happier and healthier lives for more than 1,000 children annually.

Who We Served

Crisis Nursery has provided care for 1,201 children this year, with an average age of 3 years. All of our programs strengthen families and address the social, psychological and developmental needs of each child.

Our staff has provided 36,180 days of care and 8,225 home visits to families in need of support.

Children's Shelter | Making a Difference

Our shelter provided 8,426 days of care for 505 children from birth through age 8 last year.

  • 46% were homeless.
  • 30% were exposed to domestic violence, child abuse and neglect.
  • 33% had parent(s) with medical, health, behavior or psychological treatment, problems or abuse.
  • Most families had multiple risk factors.

FACES | Children on the Road to Success

FACES helped 151 pregnant women and children from birth through 3 years old last year.
  • 96% of parents had a better understanding of their child's development.
  • 75% were better aware of and able to use community resources.
  • 63% spent more time reading to and playing with their child(ren).

Foster Care | Nurturing Children in Crisis

Our foster families provided 101 children with 18,882 days of care, a 73% increase over last year.

  • 20 children were successfully reunited with their birth families.
  • 17 children found a "forever family" through adoption, more than double that of the previous year.

Healthy Families | Ensuring a Healthy Start

  • 292 families received 6,451 home visits.
  • 64% of families stayed involved in the program for more than one year.
