The holiday season is an especially hard time for many of the children who come to Crisis Nursery. Some children think they were sent to the Shelter because they were bad and some question if Santa will be able to find them on Christmas Day.
One particular December day, visiting volunteers asked the children what they wanted from Santa this year. The excited kids all answered at the same time their wishes which ranged from toy trucks and Barbie dolls to Play Station games. Unable to be heard over the chatter of the children, a five-year old named Alyssa tugged on the side of one of the volunteer’s pant leg. She whispered in her ear, “all I want for Christmas is to go home and be with my mommy.”
This little girl did not want material items. She wanted to be back at home with her family. Alyssa’s mother was able to put her daughter in the safe care of Crisis Nursery while she worked to find a job and a place to live. Thankfully, Alyssa was reunited with her mother two days before Christmas.
Imagine what would happen to children and families like Alyssa and her family if the services offered by Crisis Nursery were no longer available. We do know that we can’t sustain our current levels of services without you. This holiday season please renew your support for Crisis Nursery and help provide our children and families “Hope for the Holidays.”
