Crisis Nursery

Since 1977, Crisis Nursery Inc., the Valley's longest-serving children's shelter, has provided a safe haven for more than 18,000 children in Greater Phoenix through child-centered and family-focused programs and services.

All of our programs support our mission: to break the cycle of child abuse and neglect by strengthening families and addressing the social, psychological, and developmental needs of each child. Families can turn to us at the beginning of a crisis situation when the opportunity to create lifelong change is greatest.

Our Children's Shelter provides a safe haven and temporary home for children threatened by abuse, neglect or homelessness. The shelter also provides a day respite program for emergencies that don't require an overnight stay and affords health and development assessments for children while family crises are resolved. Crisis counseling for parents, as well as referrals and connections for addressing child and family needs are available to increase family stability.

Crisis Nursery's F.A.C.E.S. (Families and Children Experiencing Success) program arranges individualized childhood development services for toddlers and promotes healthy family development. F.A.C.E.S. ensures that pregnant women and families with toddlers have healthy, well-adjusted family development skills and access to services and resources to help them become the best they can be.

Nurturing children in crisis is a large part of what we do; our Foster Care program provides victims of child abuse and neglect a place with a loving foster family that is trained to meet their unique physical, emotional and developmental needs. Families will receive ongoing education and support by dedicated licensing specialists who coach and mentor foster families through both the tough and rewarding times. We form a partnership between foster and birth families to maintain needed family connections and successful returns home when it is safe and acceptable to do so, as well as arrange adoptions or guardianships for at-risk children.

Healthy Families is a voluntary home-based program that helps to ensure a healthy start for at-risk families. We provide health and assessment services and resources, administer home visiting services and form an overall partnership with families to build strong, lifelong connections with each other and the community around them. Each service is tailored to meet the wishes and needs of each family we encounter to achieve the best results possible.

In addition to financial donations, Crisis Nursery relies heavily on volunteer support to work with children and to host events in the community in order to acquire the necessities that every family and child needs. Last year alone, Crisis Nursery volunteers generously donated 14,704 hours of their time to help enrich the lives of children throughout the area.
